John Pirman

John earned his BFA in Graphic Design and Illustration from Kent State University in 1979 and studied with legendary designer Paul Rand in Switzerland in 1977. Influenced by Swiss design, pop culture, WPA posters, and mid-century modern aesthetics, his work reflects a bold, graphic sensibility.

After moving to New York, he built a successful career as a freelance illustrator, creating editorial work for Fortune, Vogue, The New York Times, and Time, among others. His commercial clients include Bloomingdale’s, Estée Lauder, JetBlue, and American Express.

John’s work has been featured by Print Magazine, The Art Directors Club, and The Society of Illustrators. He also contributed to the rebranding of Nick @ Nite and The Ringling Museum of Art. Based in Sarasota since 2008, John continues to create visually engaging, culturally informed work.
