Mark Anderson

Mark Anderson is Professor Emeritus from the Ringling College of Art and Design, where he taught sculpture for over 30 years. His work in bronze, aluminum and glass combines realism with formal design. As the late Henry Geldzahler, former curator of Modern Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, said: “Mark Anderson’s moving handsome sculptures perfectly balance representation and abstraction while emphasizing our origins in animal nature.”

“Everyone holds their heart in their hand,” a line from a poem by Delmore Schwartz. This monoprint was done shortly after my extensive heart surgery. For this print I selected a drawing from my first solo show which was also titled Everyone Holds Their Heart in Their Hand. In this monoprint the figure taken from the drawing is doubled and reversed, which forms the shape of a heart. I gave a variation of this monoprint to my heart surgeon, who actually held my heart in his hands. Thank you to master printer, Chris Schumaker, for making this print possible.
