Joseph Melancon

Joseph Melancon is a prolific, award-winning artist whose paintings have been exhibited nationally in numerous group and solo shows. Several books and art magazines have featured his paintings and he is included in private collections across the U.S. His education includes a BA in Fine Arts from LSU and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from Texas Woman's University. He has taught painting, drawing and design for many years in various areas of the United States, which includes 5 different colleges and universities. Joseph is currently represented by Palm Avenue Fine Arts in Sarasota, Florida.

“When I paint it is an expressive and emotional act. It is lyrical and spontaneous with rapid brush strokes. Some are brash as an abstract expressionist and some meander like gentle flowing water. I think of the brush as a conductor's baton or a fencer's foil, connecting me with the object of my attention. Landscapes can be grand and sweeping or small and personal. My concentration is on the structure, design, light and shadow found in nature.”
